Progressive Rate Dock Springs

Variable Rate Dock Spring set

This is a set of variable spring rate dock springs.

You can see how the coils grow closer together on one end.  The tighter coils increase the compression rate for that section of the spring.  In an automobile, progressive rate springs are used to give a softer ride but resist bottoming out.  Most modern vehicles have progressive rate springs.   A progressive rate spring is well suited to what we need from a spring capable of taming a dock in a big wind.  The progressive rate springs I chose have 800 lbs. per inch of compression but the rate goes up as the spring is compressed.  That allows your winch, cable, and anchor to load up progressively over time, preventing the sudden shock on your components from your dock hammering on those parts.

The Progressive Rate Dock Springs are well suited for use on just about all docks, having the lighter initial compression resistance which grows higher as the spring is compressed.
